Sunday Memo: Coffee fungus … Sonics phenom falls hard … Diver dies

The fungus among us: Well, sort of … Central America’s coffee production is being decimated by a fungus called roya. And there’s a Renton connection.

Sports: Storm wins, Sounders tie, Mariners lose.

Young Sonics phenom Robert Swift falls hard: At 18, the 7-footer the Sonics selected with the 12th pick in the 2004 NBA draft showed a world of promise, but injuries and immaturity derailed his career. Now, at 28, he’s left behind a trail of people who are no longer sure where he is or what he’s up to.

Diver dies at Edmonds park: Crew members from a ferry saw the body of the diver, from Marysville, floating in the water at midday yesterday. Rescue boats brought the diver to short. CPR was performed, but the man could not be revived.

Weather: Ugly week ahead. Cool and a chance of showers on Memorial Day. A chance of showers and cool temperatures, as in the low to mid-6os, throughout the week. National Weather Service forecast
