Video: Hero cat stops dog attack on 4-year-old

Ninja cat“Ninja cat,” read the headline of the Bakersfield Californian newspaper.

Tara, a family cat in Bakersfield, went all samurai on Tuesday when a dog attacked its owner’s 4-year-old boy, Jeremy — charging, attacking and repelling the dog, which was described as an 8-month-old Labrador-chow mix.

And now, Tara’s video has gone viral. Dad Roger Triantafilo posted security-camera video of the attack and counterattack. (There are multiple camera angles, which makes you wonder how many security cameras one needs in Bakersfield.) The attack on the child looks frighteningly real. Jeremy needed stitches for a bite wound shown in video on Bakersfield’s KERO-TV.

“I’ve never seen a cat do that,” said Triantafilo. “Especially ours. It just shows how much she really has a family-oriented mind set.”

Said Jeremy: “Tara is my hero.”
