Washington brush fire burns 1,300 acres

MALAGA — Fire officials in Chelan County say a brush fire that burned 2 square miles east of Wenatchee, and damaged power poles and transmission lines is 90 percent contained.

Chelan County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Cindy Blaufuss said several dozen firefighters were mopping up hot spots Thursday but that the threat to about 40 nearby homes has eased.

The Wenatchee World reports that no homes were damaged by the fire that began late Wednesday afternoon.

Utility crews worked through the night to replace the damaged lines and burned poles. Power was restored Thursday to about 200 customers affected by the fire. The Chelan County Public Utility District says power also has been restored to Alcoa’s Wenatchee Works smelter.
