Earlier crash, truck fire caused big backup on I-5 northbound at Federal Way

Update 8:50 a.m.:  All lanes of Interstate 5 between Fife and Federal Way have reopened.

A fire following the collision of two trucks resulted in the closure of three lanes of the interstate for nearly five and a half hours, according to the State Patrol.

There were minor injuries in the crash that occurred around 2 a.m.

Original post:The crash of two trucks and subsequent fire that at one time shut down three lanes of traffic between Fife and Federal Way on I-5 this morning caused a backup on the freeway northbound, according to the state Department of Transportation.

At 7:30 a.m., the backup that was at one time more than 6 miles long was breaking up and one right lane was still closed.

The Transportation Department tweeted at 7:35 a.m. that the this incident has “really messed up most of NB routes.”
