A 43-year-old male inmate died at the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle Tuesday evening, according to the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention.
The inmate, a man from Seattle, was found unresponsive at about 6:40 p.m. by staff during a routine security check, the department said in a news release. Jail and medical staff tried to resuscitate the inmate but he was still unresponsive when medics arrived eight minutes later. He was pronounced dead at 7:18 p.m., the release said.
The man was booked into the King County Jail on Monday for a warrant issued by the state Department of Corrections, the release said. He has not been identified.
The Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention will work with Public Health – Seattle & King County to conduct an internal investigation, as part of a standard review for jail-related deaths, the release said. The Seattle Police Department will conduct an independent investigation.
