Former Gov. Gary Locke will give one of three commencement speeches at Western Washington University June 14.
Locke, formerly U.S. ambassador to China, will speak to graduates of the College of Business and Economics, the College of Fine and Performing Arts, Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies and Huxley College of the environment. He’ll also receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Western.
The second speaker, Jerry Thon, is the vice president of Astoria Holdings, a fish processing plant in Astoria, Oregon. He’ll speak to graduates of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (Humanities division) and the Woodring College of Education.
The third speaker, Douglas Massey, is a sociologist specializing in international migration and socioeconomic stratification, who directs the Office of Population Research at Princeton University. He’ll speak to graduates of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (Social Sciences division) and the College of Sciences and Technology.
Admission is by ticket only.
