TOPPENISH, Yakima County — The family of Tomás Villanueva will hold a public memorial service Saturday in Toppenish for the late farmworker rights advocate.

Villanueva died June 6 at age 72 in Seattle.

A tireless advocate for the health, safety and wages of farmworkers, Villanueva led union campaigns, launched a food cooperative and helped establish the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic.

His memorial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at A.J. Strom Gymnasium at Toppenish Middle School, 104 Goldendale Ave.
