Monday Memo: Rainier tragedy … $15 wage vote … 2 teens die in crash

One of six climbers who died on Mount Rainier is from the Seattle area: KING 5 says it has confirmed with his wife that one of the six climbers who died on Mount Rainier is John Mullally of Seattle. The guide service that was leading the climbers up the mountain says it expects to release the name of the second climbing guide later this morning. This post will be updated.

Speaking of climbing … Have a look at Craig Welch’s story on the climbing business and specifically the guide service leading the climb when tragedy struck.

$15 minimum wage vote: The Seattle City Council is expected to vote on Mayor Ed Murray’s proposed minimum wage hike this afternoon. We’ll have the results later today.

Impaired judgment … Two teens were killed when the pickup they were in with five others crashed near Shelton yesterday. Five of the teens were in the bed of the truck. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office says it appears alcohol and marijuana were involved.

Weather: It’s expected to be sunny with temperatures in the mid- to upper 70s today. We’re liking that. National Weather Service forecast
