A memorial service has been planned for Karen Sykes, a well-known outdoors writer whose body was found over the weekend in Mount Rainier National Park after she went missing while hiking.
The service for Sykes, 70, will be held on July 14 at the Mountaineers Seattle Program Center in Magnuson Park. Attendees are invited to share stories and experiences with friends at 6:30 p.m., with a program beginning at 7 p.m.
“Karen Sykes was an inspiration to many hikers as hiking companion, hike leader, columnist, guidebook author and photographer. Even though she is gone, she lives on in her work and in our hearts,” the Mountaineers group wrote on its event page.
The Seattle Program Center is located at 7700 Sand Point Way N.E. Photos of Karen Sykes for incorporation in a slide show can be sent to Heidi Walker at email@example.com. The Mountaineers invite those who knew Sykes to share memories on the Mountaineers website.
