Update at 11:34 a.m.: A woman has been taken into custody after police say she fired several gunshots this morning in the Seward Park neighborhood.

The gunfire was reported at 10:01 a.m. at 51st Avenue South and South Brandon Street. The suspect reportedly fired multiple gunshots and threatened a neighbor, although no one was hit by the gunfire, according to Officer Drew Fowler.

“I heard three shots,” said neighbor David Chapman. “There’s been gunshots in this neighborhood before, but there’s been nothing like this in a long, long time.”

Police responded to the scene and surrounded a home where the suspect was believed to be holed up. The woman, in her 30s, surrendered after a short standoff.

The motive for the shooting was not immediately known.

“(The suspect) is a known subject to us,” Fowler said. “And we’ll be working with prosecutors and mental-health experts to make sure she gets the treatment and correction that she needs.”

During the incident, several Seattle Public Schools went into shelter-in-place status, meaning activities went on as usual inside, but doors were locked. The schools were Orca K-8, Aki Kurose Middle School and the following elementaries: Dearborn Park, Graham Hill, Martin Luther King Jr. and Wing Luke.

Update at 11:28 p.m.: Police say the suspect has been taken into custody. No injuries have been reported.

It’s still unclear whether the person is suspected of opening fire on anyone.

Update at 11:16 a.m.: Police say they have located a suspect in this morning’s shooting inside a home. Hostage negotiators are using a load speaker to try to get the individual to surrender.
