Police: Hash-oil chemicals found after South Park fire

Fire investigators found chemicals used to make hash oil at the scene of yesterday’s trailer fire in the South Park neighborhood that left a 36-year-old woman badly burned, police said.

The victim was known in the neighborhood as the “Hash Lady” and had reportedly been using volatile and dangerous chemicals to produce hash oil, police said.

Police and firefighters responded to the fire  near Eighth Avenue South and South Portland Street just before 2 p.m. Tuesday and found smoke pouring from a large refrigerated semi-truck trailer. Police found the woman two blocks from the fire and immediately called medics, police said.

The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center .

The fire marshal and SPD’s Arson Bomb Squad are investigating the fire, which caused damage estimated between $8,000 and $10,000.

Under rules for the state’s new industry, hash oil can only be made in licensed facilities, and those do not include homes. State rules also require that only certain equipment and chemicals be used, for safety reasons.
