Several injured after Highway 2 collision near Monroe

UPDATE, 9 p.m. | Nine of the 12 passengers in the five cars were taken to hospitals, the Washington State Patrol said. Six people are in critical condition.

Three people were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The other six went to Monroe hospitals.

Both directions of Highway 2 will reopen around 10 p.m., according to WSP.

ORIGINAL POST | Several people were seriously injured after a head-on collision involving five vehicles on Highway 2 between Monroe and Sultan this afternoon, according to the Washington State Patrol.

At least one person is being airlifted from the scene, WSP Trooper Keith Leary said. Twelve passengers were in the five cars.

Both directions of Highway 2 near Calhoun Road are blocked, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
