Tuesday Memo: Deputy in court … Horrific crash … Thief sinks man’s pride and joy

Deputy to appear in court today: The King County sheriff’s deputy accused of promoting his estranged wife’s prostitution, stealing ammunition from the department’s gun range where he worked and selling steroids is scheduled to be arraigned today in King County Superior Court.

Incredible crash: A car involved in a fatal crash Sunday night on Pacific Highway East was going so fast when it crossed the center line and hit a truck that the car’s engine  was sent flying some 50 feet, says Milton Police Chief Mark Langford. The car’s 22-year-old driver died, and police are looking into whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

No respect for a classic car:  A 79-year-old man took his Ford Model A car to church in Prineville, Ore., Sunday to show it off, and when he came outside after services, the car was gone. Police say a transient took the car and drove off, and, for reasons yet to be explained, drove it into a nearby river. There’s no damage estimate for the Model A as yet, but we’re guessing the car’s owner is feeling a tad bruised.

Weather: Cloudy, chance of showers or rain. Hey, what happened to that sun, dang it? National Weather Service forecast
