CHEHALIS — The Lewis County sheriff’s office says rescuers worked Monday to recover the body of a Port Orchard teen from the river south of Mount Rainier National Park.
Chief Deputy Stacy Brown said kayakers spotted the 17-year-old’s body on Sunday, more than four weeks after he fell in the cold and fast-moving Ohanapecosh River near Cedar Grove Campground.
The teen was taking photos with friends on July 4 when he slipped and fell in the river. The friends tried to reach him with a stick when he was caught in an eddy, but he was swept away.
Search teams reached the boy in steep terrain Monday morning, and worked to get his body out of the canyon.
