UPDATE, 6 p.m. | CenturyLink says it expects to have service restored around midnight.
ORIGINAL POST | A severed cable on San Juan Island is affecting CenturyLink services, including 911 calls, for residents throughout the islands, CenturyLink said this afternoon.
In the event of an emergency, residents should go directly to a fire department:
- San Juan Island residents should go to the Friday Harbor Fire Department, located at 1011 Mullis St. in Friday Harbor.
- Lopez Island residents should go to the Lopez Fire Station, 2228 Fisherman Bay Road in Lopez Village.
- Orcas Island residents should go to the Orcas Island Fire District at the fire station, 45 Lavender Lane, Eastsound.
CenturyLink is working to restore 911 services as soon as possible and technicians are working on site to repair residential and business services. The cable was cut by an outside contractor, CenturyLink said.
Last year, the San Juan County Council declared a state of emergency after an underwater CenturyLink fiber-optic cable was cut, causing a four-day outage.
