Construction worker falls to death at Bellevue College

Update at 12:31 p.m.: The Bellevue Police Department says the construction worker who fell to his death was 31. The state Department of Labor & Industries is investigating the accident.

Original post: A man who was working at the construction site of a new building at Bellevue College died this morning after falling off a ladder and plummeting from the four-story building, police said.

Bellevue Police Department spokesman Seth Tyler said authorities are in the process of identifying the man, who is reported to be in his 30s, and notifying his relatives.

Tyler said the man was on a ladder on the fourth floor when he fell from the ladder and off the building, falling about 50 feet to the ground. He was pronounced dead by medics who arrived on the scene shortly after the 10:38 a.m. call.

Police and state investigators are looking into what, if any, safety equipment the man may have been using, Tyler said.
