Update | 5:02 p.m.:

A fire today destroyed an estimated 16 units of the Regency Woods Apartment Homes in Renton.

The fire started at about 2 p.m. in the 1400 block of South 18th Street, and spread to about five or six different buildings of the apartment complex, said Capt. Kyle Ohashi of the Kent Fire Department.

“At this point, it is hard tell what buildings were separate or not,” he said. “A couple are completely gone.”

No injuries have been reported.

According to Skyway Fire, crews from Renton, Skyway, Tukwila, Kent, SeaTac, South King Valley Regional and Seattle responded.

Although the building fires were largely under control by 3 p.m., strong winds caused embers to spread and created brush fires more than 1 ½ miles  downwind , which crews are continuing to try  to put out, Ohashi said.

A team from the American Red Cross is helping the estimated 80 people impacted by the fire.

This is a developing story and will be updated once more information becomes available.
