Early morning fire at Roosevelt home called suspicious

Seattle police say a fire that destroyed the porch on a home in the Roosevelt neighborhood this morning is suspicious.

The fire was reported shortly after 2 a.m. by a man who called 911 when smoke began pouring into a bedroom on the second floor of his home in the 800 block of Northeast 72nd Street, police said.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which had consumed much of the victim’s front porch and scorched the basement, attic and damaged the siding of a neighboring house, according to police.

Fire investigators believe the fire started on the front porch and spread from there.

The Seattle Fire Department estimated damage to the two houses at $105,000.
