A pilot died after he crashed a helicopter in the Wenatchee area, according to the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.

Undersheriff John Wisemore said the pilot was the only one aboard the helicopter.

The crash occurred after 2 p.m. Wednesday in Wenatchee for unknown reasons, said Allen Kenitzer of the Federal Aviation Administration in Renton.

The aircraft, a Bell 206A Jet Ranger, was an orchard helicopter that was being used to dry cherries before it crashed near the a fueling station, Wisemore said.

He said there were no witnesses at the scene and the helicopter was not involved in battling wildfires in the area.
