Man charged with manslaughter for slapping Sea-Tac Airport co-worker who died

A 27-year-old Federal Way man was charged today with first-degree manslaughter after he struck a co-worker at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Saturday and the co-worker later died.

According to court documents filed in King County Superior Court, Taumailelei Mapusua Jr., an employee of Integrated Airplane Service, got into an argument over a piece of equipment with the victim, a manager with Korean Air, while both men were in a secure cargo area.

Mapusua “slapped” the victim, whose identity has not yet been released by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. The  victim fell backward onto the concrete tarmac and suffered a fatal brain injury, prosecutors say.

Mapusua, who is in jail  in lieu of $1 million bail, is scheduled for his arraignment on July 23.
