Update | 8:08 p.m.:
Seattle police detectives arrested a man Saturday who is under investigation in the deaths of a man and woman found with similar head injuries, within blocks of each other in the area of the Duwamish Waterway.
Detectives served a search warrant at a home in the 700 block of South Southern Street as part of the investigation, police said.
A police news release said the man was being investigated in the “murders” of the man, whose body was found Saturday morning, and the woman, whose body was found Saturday afternoon. No murder charges have been filed, and the names of the suspect, the man and the woman were not disclosed.
A man out for an early-morning walk along the Duwamish Waterway found the man’s body on the bank.
Seattle police and fire crews responded about 6:30 a.m. to Eighth Avenue South and South Portland Street, where they found the man’s body with severe head trauma.
Detectives responded and believe the victim was assaulted somewhere else and taken to the river bank and left there, police said.
Detectives canvassed the neighborhood, where some residents reported seeing a suspicious car after midnight, police said.
About 4 p.m., a pedestrian discovered the body of a woman in the 7100 block of First Avenue South, under Highway 99, police said. She had suffered injuries similar to the man.
“Detectives are looking into the possibility of a connection between the two victims,” police said.
