Milfoil treatment to close Bellevue swimming areas next week

Bellevue will close swimming areas at Meydenbauer, Clyde, and Newcastle beach parks one day each next week to control invasive milfoil blooms.

Before herbicide is applied near the parks, the swimming areas will be closed at the following times: 7 a.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday at Meydenbauer Beach Park, 419 98th Ave. N.E. and Clyde Beach Park, 9415 Lake Washington Blvd.; and 7 a.m. Wednesday  to 7 a.m. Thursday at Newcastle Beach Park, 4400 Lake Washington Blvd. S.E.

The rest of the parks’ areas will remain open. Herbicide will not be applied directly to the beach parks, but the public areas maybe be affected by spraying on shoreline properties, according to a City of Bellevue release.

Milfoil can alter a water body’s ecology and rob oxygen from the water.
