A man was seriously injured when the car he was riding in swerved and then flipped on its side in Rainier Valley this afternoon, police said.
Witnesses told police they saw a car speed northbound in the 7200 block of Rainier Avenue South and then attempt to pass a Metro bus, according to the Seattle Police Department. The car careened onto a sidewalk and struck a fence and a tree, which caused the car to flip onto its passenger side.
The driver of the totaled car fled while the injured passenger was inside. The passenger had severe facial injuries and was taken to Harborview Medical Center. A woman who was struck by the fence was also taken to Harborview with unknown injuries.
Police Department traffic-collision detectives are conducting a follow-up investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call investigators at 206-684-8934.
