Skagit County woman killed by falling tree identified

Skagit Valley Herald

MOUNT VERNON — An Alger woman who died Sunday after a treefelling accident has been identified by the Skagit County Coroner’s Office as Claudia Lauden, 61.

The Skagit County Sheriff’s Office said Lauden was struck by a falling tree as a crew was attempting to cut a large fir tree down in the 1400 block of Butler Creek Road.

The property owners had hired an acquaintance with a friend who had experience in cutting down trees, but as they were using a pulley system to bring the tree down, it spun and fell in an unexpected direction, killing Lauden, said Sheriff’s Office Chief Don McDermott.
