Tacoma father charged with drugging baby

TACOMA (AP) — A Tacoma man has pleaded not guilty to charges that he drugged his baby by spiking his bottle with an anesthetic called ketamine.

Pierce County authorities say 34-year-old Scott Rasmus has been charged with first degree assault of a child and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The charges date back to a February incident when the child’s mother found him unconscious and not breathing after being out of their house for a night after an argument with her husband.

The child survived after treatment in a hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit. Doctors concluded he had ingested opiates and ketamine, which caused his breathing rate to decrease and he almost died. Lab tests found traces of ketamine and ethanol in his bottle.

Rasmus pleaded no guilty Friday.
