Tacoma man charged with murdering wife

The Associated Press

TACOMA — Pierce County prosecutors say a 48-year-old Tacoma man accused of fatally shooting his wife during an argument has been charged with second-degree murder.

At his arraignment Monday, Darrin Brooks pleaded not guilty and was ordered held on $1 million bail.

In court papers, Prosecutor Mark Lindquist says Brooks told detectives that he and his 28-year-old wife, Renee, had gotten into an argument that led to a physical fight Thursday at their apartment.

Lindquist says a friend of the victim went to the apartment Friday, found her dead in a bedroom and called 911.

The prosecutor says patrol officers saw Darrin Brooks on Saturday, driving a vehicle that was reported stolen two days earlier. They took him into custody after a short chase.
