Thursday Memo: More ferry woes … Officer Overzealous … Seafair planes and hydroplanes

National Weather Service forecast

Water world: Planning to travel by ferry today or Friday? Check to make sure your boat is still running and plan for some long delays. The ferries have canceled international service Thursday and Friday on the run between Anacortes and Sidney, British Columbia.

One-man pot patrol: One Seattle Police officer is responsible for about 80 percent of the tickets that were issued earlier this year for marijuana use in public. The tickets included a few one-liners, including one ticket referring to the voter-enacted changes in marijuana laws as “silly,” according to a statement from new Police Chief Kathleen O’Toole.

Sunny skies: Warm temperatures and clear skies are expected to continue through the weekend and well into next week. There might be a little fog on Sunday, but your Seafair weekend should be rain free, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Speaking of Seafair: The hydro planes return to Lake Washington this week. Can the sport continue to survive? Hydroplane chairman Sam Cole says it’s a “transitional year.”

The need for speed: Along with the hydros, we get the Blue Angels — back after a one-year hiatus. If you need to cross I-90, make sure you check when the bridge will be closed. The Navy F/A-18 jets will be practicing today from 9.45 a.m. to noon and 1:15 p.m. to 2:40 p.m.
