14-year-old accidentally shot in the face in Longview

LONGVIEW – Police in Longview, Washington, say a 14-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the face as he and a friend handled a gun at a home.

Officers say the boy was taken first to a local hospital Thursday, then flown to Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. There was no report on his condition Thursday night.

KATU-TV reports that police say a 15-year-old boy who lives at the home found a hidden key to a gun safe and was able to gain access to a handgun. The 15-year-old reportedly told officers that the gun went off as he was putting it back in the gun safe.

Both parents were at work at the time of the shooting.
