Two people were taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries this morning after a rollover crash on Interstate 5 in South Seattle.
Washington State Patrol troopers were called to I-5 near Michigan Street around 3 a.m. on a report of the crash, said Trooper Karim Boukabou. When troopers arrived they found two people on the ground near a 2001 GMC Yukon. They had been ejected, according to a State Patrol memo.
The victims, a 39-year-old man and 30-year-old woman, live in Everett. Neither was wearing a seatbelt, according to the State Patrol.
The Yukon was traveling north on I-5 when it apparently left the roadway just north of Michigan Street. The vehicle struck an embankment and rolled over, according to the State Patrol.
Boukabou said alcohol and drugs could have played a role the crash.
“We found beer cans scattered at the scene and multiple drugs at the scene,” Boukabou said. “We have to investigate further to confirm what it is.”
