The Washington State Patrol crime lab has determined the blood on items found along an Auburn roadway earlier this week was human, police said Friday.
Though officers had searched several spots by Friday morning, evidence of a crime was found only in the original location off Peasley Canyon Road, according to the Auburn Police Department. No information was available on whether officers had tracked down viable leads or a victim.
Officers responded to a section of Peasley Canyon Road Wednesday afternoon after a Federal Protective Service employee reported seeing flames in the woods near the road, police Cmdr. Mike Hirman said. When the agent pulled over to put out the fire, he saw a man rush to get into a dark-colored SUV.
The agent then found carpet remnants, pieces of linoleum and towels soaked with a significant amount of fresh blood, police said.
