Police believe whoever is responsible for the death of 6-year-old Jenise Wright would have been “covered in mud” at some point, most likely over the weekend.
The little girl’s body was found on Thursday in a heavily wooded area near a creek and ravine that is “not easy to get to,” said Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Scott Wilson.
The person or persons who left her there would have had heavy mud on their pants, shoes and clothing, he said.
Anyone who knows of someone who was cleaning or disposing of muddy clothes – or anyone with other information – is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
Jenise Wright was last seen at bedtime in her family home in East Bremerton on Saturday night. Her parents did not report her missing until 10:30 p.m. on Sunday because the girl had a habit of wandering the neighborhood alone.
Police said the girl’s parents and residents of the Steele Creek Mobile Home Park have been cooperative.
