Damage to businesses but no injuries in Belltown shooting

Police say an early Sunday morning barrage of gunfire in Belltown caused damage to several businesses near the intersection of  3rd Avenue  and Bell Street, but there were no reported injuries.

Seattle police were on patrol when they heard numerous gun shots fired in the 2200 block of 3rd Avenue at around 2:30 AM. Officers arrived to find ten shell casings from a handgun, but no suspect, police said.

A witness told police that the shooter had gotten into an  argument with someone in a passing vehicle that escalated to the point where the car drove onto the sidewalk towards the shooter, Seattle police said. The shooter jumped clear of the car and opened fire at the fleeing vehicle, police said.

The shooter and vehicle left before police arrived.
