Drones banned at Olympic National Park

The Associated Press

Olympic National Park officials have banned the use of drones within park boundaries.

The ban was approved by Superintendent M. Sarah Creachbaum last week, following a directive from the National Parks Service that ordered superintendents in its 401 parks to write rules prohibiting the launching, landing or operation of unmanned aircraft in their parks.

Each park must change its “compendium” — a set of regulations unique to that park — if a ban is to be enforceable.

Olympic National Park spokeswoman Barb Maynes says there haven’t been any episodes at the park where drones have been an annoyance.

It’s been a different story, however, in places like Yellowstone, where drones have crashed into lakes and springs and flown too close to bison.
