A diesel spill from a truck on Harbor Island caused two other multi-car accidents on the West Seattle Bridge and significant traffic backups on Tuesday afternoon.
More than 80 gallons of diesel leaked across the West Seattle Bridge after a truck struck a concrete barrier shortly before 5 p.m., according to the Seattle Fire Department. Three inches of fuel spilled onto the roadway and caused two additional multi-car accidents along the onramp from eastbound on the West Seattle Bridge to northbound Highway 99.
Portions of roadways near Harbor Island were closed while crews were cleaning the leak site with plastic sheeting and towels, the fire department said.
The Coast Guard was called to help prevent fuel from leaking into the Duwamish Water, according to the Seattle Police Department.
