Man drives stolen car into water; police recover body

The Associated Press

Divers in Seattle have recovered the body of a man who drove a stolen car off a dock and into the water.

Police and fire rescue teams were called to the Ship Canal late Wednesday night after receiving reports that a Nissan Sentra had driven off a pier. Authorities say they saw a man in the water, calling for help. However, the man refused to grab a rope that was repeatedly thrown to him and pushed an officer away who tried to rescue him.

The man then went under the water. Police said they believe he was driving a car that was stolen Monday.
