Monday Memo: Bellevue slaying … A diploma after 50 years … Gun initiatives battle-ready

Bellevue homicide: Police aren’t saying much about the stabbing death of a man at a Bellevue Burger King yesterday afternoon. Homicides in Bellevue are rare. We hope to get more today.

Got to love stories like this: Sandra Lantz Kleven, kicked out of Bothell High School more than 50 years ago after she became pregnant, finally has her high school diploma, not to mention two masters degrees.

And he was just 35:  Experienced skydiver dies in ‘extremely hard landing’

Two camps, two gun initiatives: Initiative 594 proposes universal background checks for gun sales and transfers, while rival Initiative 591 would prevent the state from adopting background-check laws that go beyond the national standard, which requires the checks for sales by licensed dealers but not for purchases from private sellers.

Weather: Sunny with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. Nice. National Weather Service forecast
