Monday Memo: Highway 99 closure … Heroin in the shrubbery … Hiker rescued

Highway 99 closed: At least part of it until 5 a.m. Wednesday, from the Battery Street Tunnel to Valley Street. Drivers beware.

Neighbor’s vigilance: That’s what led him to recover $10,000 in heroin he found in shrubbery near Green Lake, where the people who left it there had hoped to go back and get it.

Hiker injured, rescued: He fell on rocks, possibly breaking a leg and ribs, while hiking Sunday on Mount Adams.

Charges could be filed today against the man accused of killing two men at a Kent gas station last week. The man told police he opened fire after a group of construction workers directed racial slurs at him and a friend, according to a court document.

Sports report: Sounders and Mariners were victors over the weekend. The M’s swept Boston, and the Sounders remain atop the MLS Western Division in a win again Portland in the Cascadia Cup.

Weather forecast: Sunny and temperatures in the low 80s — always welcome news. National Weather Service forecast
