At least 11 injured in 5 rollover crashes

Six people were injured on northbound Interstate 5 near Lake City Way in the first of five separate rollover crashes reported in King County this morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Witnesses told troopers they saw a vehicle speeding at 80 or 90 mph on I-5 around 3:30 a.m., then swerve and lose control near the Lake City exit, the State Patrol said. The Chevrolet Impala hit a guardrail and rolled over with six occupants, including one person who was trapped when troopers arrived. All six were taken to Harborview Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. The 23-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault, according to the State Patrol.

About two hours later, an 18-year-old driver was taken into custody for investigation of vehicular assault after a rollover crash on northbound I-5 at Mercer Street. Four other people, all young males, were also in the car, according to the State Patrol.

Troopers responded to three other rollover crashes in King County this morning, the Patrol said. A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after the fifth rollover crash on eastbound Highway 18 near Hobart.
