Tuesday Memo: Pipe bomb in Olympia … Slain girl’s parents seek custody of other children

Disturbing find: An Olympia woman cleaning her garage found what apparently was a pipe bomb. Yikes.

Parents of slain girl seek full trial: The parents of slain 6-year-old Bremerton girl have asked for a full trial as they attempt to regain custody of three other children.

How long will this last? A 19-year-old woman is perched in a tree on Bainbridge Island to protest a planned development there. Police say they are “hoping for a peaceful resolution to this situation.” Hasn’t it been a long time since anyone climbed a tree to protest cutting it down? Some 800 trees are at stake.

West Nile virus is here: The first case of the nasty virus turned up in Kennewick where a young man was infected. He’s being treated in a hospital there. We had two cases last year. There were 38 cases in 2009.

Weather: Uh, oh … Showers and drizzle and cooler temperatures. Summer expected to return by the weekend. Yeah, right. National Weather Service forecast
