A Saturday afternoon plane crash near Frontier Air Park in Snohomish County left an 80-year-old co-pilot dead and the 66-year-old pilot critically injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a small plane down at 3:40 p.m. in the 11200 block of 125th Ave. N.E. of the Frontier Air Park, between Marysville and Granite Falls.

Crews had to cut off part of the cockpit to reach the two men, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.

The cause of the crash will be investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.
