TACOMA (AP) — Officials at a Tacoma hospital say a 5-year-old boy they are treating for complications often associated with E. coli is still in critical condition but steadily improving.
The boy attended the same gathering as a 4-year-old Oregon girl who died Monday evening from a type of kidney failure.
A spokeswoman for Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma says Brad Sutton’s family thanks the community for its support and asks them to keep him in their prayers.
The boy’s mother, Elizabeth Sutton, told The Oregonian he was being treated for kidney failure.
She says the two children shared a turkey sandwich at an Oregon restaurant. The two also reportedly swam in a pond together. The source of the infection has not been confirmed and Oregon health officials are investigating.
