The U.S. Coast Guard used an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter Saturday night to rescue two boaters near Willapa Bay who were stuck in the mud trying to walk their 12-foot aluminum skiff to shore.
The Coast Guard crew, stationed at Astoria, Ore., were called in to help free a 67-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman who left their boat after it had run aground on a mud flat, the Coast Guard said in a news release. The boaters became stuck in the muck, prompting a call to 911.
The Jayhawk crew freed the boaters, hoisting them aboard the helicopter. The pair was met by an emergency medical team for evaluation.
