Update at 1:27 p.m.: The sheriff’s office says the private bus was transporting students on field trip. Eighteen children have been taken to a hospital as a precaution.
Update at 12:27 p.m.: The King County Sheriff’s Office now says that a driver seriously hurt on Vashon Island on Wednesday collided with a private bus.
Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sgt. DB Gates initially said the collision involved a deer. In a later email she said it’s unclear whether a deer was actually struck.
Gates did not have detailed information on injuries sustained by the motorist. She said it does not appear anyone on the bus was hurt.
King County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a serious injury accident on Vashon Island that is blocking traffic in the 24700 block of Vashon Highway Southwest.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. DB Gates said it appears a motorist was seriously hurt after hitting a deer. After hitting the animal, the car slammed into a guardrail, Gates said.
The road is closed while detectives investigate.
