Motorcyclist seriously injured, driver arrested in Seattle crash

Update 3:55 p.m.

A 19-year-old driver accused of hitting a motorcyclist in Madrona on Monday was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence.

Seattle police, in a news release, said: “a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer developed probable cause to arrest the man. Investigators will now obtain a warrant and collect a sample of his blood for further impairment testing.”

Original post:

A 30-year-old motorcyclist has been hospitalized after being struck by a car.

Police and medics were called to Martin Luther Junior King Way South and South Pike Street at 12:49 p.m. The rider was stuck beneath the car when authorities arrived.

“It took us three minutes to get the car off the patient. He suffered trauma all over his body,” said Seattle Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore. “He was transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.”

Seattle police spokesman Drew Fowler said police have arrested someone in connection with the crash. Details on a cause of the crash have not been released.

Traffic in the area is being re-routed while police investigate.
