Police: Suspect shot in head in Lakewood attempted bank robbery

UPDATE, 9 p.m. | The bank suspect is believed to be the same man who soon turned up at a local hospital and was taken to surgery.

No one else was hurt Monday afternoon.

The News Tribune reports that Lt. Chris Lawler says the wounded man is expected to survive. He was believed to be wounded in the head and leg.

Lawler says a woman was driving the getaway car. Hospital surveillance footage shows a vehicle matching the description of the getaway car. Lawler said the vehicle dropped the man off and left. Police continue to search for the car and driver.

The spokesman says about 30 people were in the bank.

 

ORIGINAL POST | LAKEWOOD, Pierce County — Police in Lakewood say an armored car driver shot at a man who tried to rob a Bank of America branch, wounding the man in the left side of his head. The suspect still managed to flee in a waiting car, but without any cash.

No one else was hurt.

The News Tribune reports that Lt. Chris Lawler says a woman was driving the getaway car Monday afternoon.

Lawler says about 30 people were in the bank at the time.

Police weren’t immediately sure whether the would-be robber was armed.

They have notified area hospitals to be on the lookout for the man and officers are searching for the vehicle.
