Police: Video shows stabbing attack on Oregon store clerk

The Associated Press

ROSEBURG, Ore. — Police say the man held on charges he brutally murdered a clerk at a convenience store in Roseburg did not know her, but told investigators he hated her.

The News-Review reports that investigators recognized 27-year-old John Joseph Flannigan, who lived nearby, from a security video showing him attacking Lori Lynn Rothrock at the Fast Stop Market & Deli early Tuesday.

He is being held without bail after being arraigned on a charge of murder.

In an affidavit, police say the video shows Flannigan walk behind the counter and repeatedly stab the 38-year-old mother of four, then beat her in the head with a mallet.

Police say they arrested Flannigan at his home, where they found a bloody mallet hidden in his bed, and a knife in another room.
