The woman suspected of being the getaway driver for her husband, who was shot during an attempted bank robbery in Lakewood on Monday, was arrested Thursday afternoon.
Brittney Latrice Winston was located at her residence in Parkland, Pierce County, shortly before 1 p.m., according to the Lakewood Police Department. She was booked into custody on suspicion of first-degree attempted robbery.
Warrants had been issued for Brittney Winston and her husband, Michael Winston II, earlier Thursday. Brittney Winston is accused of driving her husband to a Bank of America branch on Monday afternoon before he confronted an armored car driver, pulled a handgun and demanded money inside the building, police said.
The guard said he drew his weapon and shot at Michael Winston in self-defense. Winston was shot but managed to run out of the bank and fled in a waiting car, police said. Detectives believe Brittney Winston drover her husband to a hospital and later abandoned the vehicle.
Michael Winston remains at a hospital under police guard. He will be booked into the Pierce County Jail when he is released from the hospital, police said.
After the incident, Brittney Winston launched an online crowdfunding page to raise money for her husband’s attorney fees, writing that her husband is an Army veteran who was at the bank to open an account. The page has generated $110 from 19 donors.
