Detectives are looking for Brittney Latrice Winston in connection with a robbery attempt in Lakewood. (Lakewood Police Department)

Detectives in Lakewood, Pierce County,  are searching for a woman who is suspected of being the getaway driver for her husband, who was shot during an attempted bank robbery on Monday.

Brittney Latrice Winston, 26, allegedly drove her husband, Michael Winston II, to a Bank of America branch on Monday afternoon before he confronted an armored car driver, pulled a handgun  and demanded money inside the building, according to the Lakewood Police Department.

The guard said he drew his weapon and shot at Michael Winston in self-defense. Winston was shot but managed to run out of the bank and fled in a waiting car.

Detectives believe Brittney Winston  drove her husband to a hospital and later abandoned the vehicle, police said.

The vehicle was recovered on Wednesday and searched; detectives located a fully loaded semi-automatic handgun under the passenger’s front seat, covered in blood.

Michael Winston remains at a hospital under police guard.
