TACOMA — A bear that has been lumbering around Tacoma for several days has been caught downtown and tranquilized.
State wildlife agents had been looking for the bear since Sunday when it was first seen in Point Defiance Park.
The News Tribune reports it was spotted Wednesday night near Stadium High School. Shortly after midnight several people called 911 to report a bear running down Pacific Avenue.
Wildlife Sgt. Ted Jackson says a Karelian bear dog named Spencer corralled the bear Thursday morning near a fast-food restaurant close to the Tacoma Dome.
The 220-pound female was darted with tranquilizer and put into a cage for a move to a remote location.
Bears sightings tend to increase this time of year as they bulk up before winter.
