Wednesday Memo: Did you feel the earthquake? … Microsoft layoffs … Cool day

A 4.0 quake rattled parts of the Kitsap Peninsula early this morning, but was felt widely in Puget Sound. There were no reports of injuries.

Microsoft jobs going: More layoffs at Microsoft are in the pipeline. Also, two board members say they are retiring at the end of the year. The layoff of 5,000 workers will come from divisions all across the company, according to published reports. These layoffs are part of the 18,oo0 layoffs the company announced earlier this year.

A few sprinkles overnight, eh? It’s going to be a tad cooler throughout today, but the weekend isn’t too far away and it’s going to warm up to the mid-70s and low 80s, we’re told. Summer keeps hangin‘ on. National Weather Service forecast

Sports teams are winners: The Sounders won their fourth U.S. Open Cup last night and the Mariners bats came alive as they walloped the Angels 13-2 in Anaheim.
